The Inventory of Child Interests (ICI) form is designed to help providers and parents identify preferred items and interests to help increase a child's motivation during play and everyday activities. The rating scales are developed to help identify a child's interests across 14 different categories (e.g., movement toys, visual items, social games, etc.) 
 
The ICI is not tied to a specific age range. This flexibility is intentional, as many autistic children have unique and varied preferences that may not align with typical developmental expectations. It’s not uncommon for older children to show strong interest in toys or activities that are traditionally marketed toward younger age groups. By avoiding age-based assumptions, the ICI allows for a more individualized and affirming approach to identifying what truly engages and motivates each child.
